The upcoming AMG EV will take inspiration from the radical Vision AMG concept from 2022 and ride on a new AMG-developed platform.

After releasing a shadowy teaser image of the electric AMG sedan at the end of April, Mercedes has now published a series of photos on Facebook of the car in camouflage. We can spot the three-pointed star motif in the headlights and taillights, a long hood, and an aerodynamic roofline.

While a second generation of the muscular Mercedes-AMG GT coupe arrived for the 2024 model year, the four-door AMG GT model soldiered on with a slightly tweaked front end and a new plug-in hybrid powertrain. Now, the AMG GT, which offers six-cylinder and eight-cylinder powertrains, is set to be replaced by an all-electric model. Mercedes just teased this AMG-exclusive EV on Instagram ahead of its reveal in June, showing off a shadowy image of an aerodynamic profile.
Not many details can be deciphered from the dark picture, but we can see a cut line in the burly rear haunches, confirming that this electric Mercedes will feature four doors. The current AMG GT four-door is a liftback, with a sloping roofline that incorporates a rear hatchback. It appears Mercedes will stick with this approach instead of a more traditional three-box sedan layout.

Mercedes first teased this car with the Vision AMG concept in 2022. While many of the details, like the translucent side windows, likely won't make production, we expect other identifying features to carry over. Mercedes has increasingly incorporated its three-pointed-star logo into its headlights and taillights, and the AMG EV could be the boldest interpretation of this motif yet if it follows the lead of the Vision AMG. The three-piece taillights, which glowed like a fighter jet's afterburners on the concept, also appear to be reaching production in some form based on photos of a camouflaged prototype released by Mercedes.
