MenAnthony Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Two really good examples of bad adaptations. From my own experience. First one is the movie Hellraiser (1987). I didn’t watch the film at first, I read the book (The Hellbound Heart) it’s based on. I knew the movie is kinda cult, but here you’ve got the original source, so why not. I liked the book a lot, like really a lot. Also the movie was made under the author’s supervision. Then I turn on the film, and the girl who was in love with the main character is now his daughter, one character just got his name changed for no reason, and Pinhead got gender-swapped. I honestly didn’t finish it, felt like I was watching some loose retelling of the book, while I just wanted a proper visual version of the original, that would’ve been way more interesting to me. Second example is The Witcher. And I think if you spend any time on the internet like I do, no need to explain much here. The only things in common are the world, its rules, and some characters. Everything else got messed up by “agenda” stuff.
Henry Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I get you, man. Especially about The Witcher. It’s one of my favorite book and game universes, and I really hoped the show would be good, but it’s mostly miscast and often drifts away from the source. The first season at least tried, but after that it’s just bad. I didn’t even watch past season two, better to replay the games or reread the books.
Dohoptcom Posted May 11 Posted May 11 (edited) I’m mostly a reader too, but sometimes I’m in the mood for something lighter, and I’ll stream a movie on 123moviies.net just to unwind. It doesn’t replace books for me, but it’s handy on days when my brain feels too tired to focus on a plot. Kind of nice to switch gears once in a while. Edited May 17 by Dohoptcom

Like with Harry Potter, I enjoy watching it more, the books didn't really click with me. Wow this is the first time I would see someone prefer the HP movies to books. In my own opinion the books are so rich and have so much details as compared to the movies.
