alice29 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Welcome to robo rehab. New research shows that robots could help stroke survivors improve arm and shoulder function by moving a patient's paralyzed arm in various pre-programmed directions. Earlier this month, researchers from Japan's Kitasato University East Hospital in Kanagwa presented their findings at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference, according to the American Heart Association. In the study, 40 patients who had recently suffered a stroke received standard therapy daily from an occupational therapist. Thirty-two patients also underwent robotic therapy, while the other participants spent the same amount of time on a self-training program. The patients receiving robotic care improved more than the patients in the self-training program, the study found.
Guest phoenix88 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Just can't imagine how is the robot therapist procedure. I just considering the effect of this training program.
Andry Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 That will be good if the program could help the patient from stroke. If people who suffered stroke can move his body again, that will make them feel better.
alice29 Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 guys please read the article carefully. it said 32 patients already underwent the procedure and the result is that people with robotic therapy improved more than those that are self-trained only. i hope you get it now lol.
neng Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 well if you were in that case would you be willing to go surgery under a robot i think it is scary
Andry Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 @alice Yes, thanks for your informations but I can't imagine how much cost that we must spend to get that help. It must be a lot of bucks.
neng Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 yes i think so too becuase as i analyze it i think using a rbot is accurate as it will act as what is told or programmed
pjbabia Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I would rather chose human therapy because, they can control what they are doing, unlike the robot which only depend on how it is programmed to do. Well the good thing for a robot is that it doesnt get tired at all. That is his consolation.. hehehehe
neng Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 well when it comes to robot i think there is more accuracy because they are programmed to do that but still i am scared when i am in as a patient
Andry Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 @neng Yeah, I won't try it on me if I am patient before there is proof that it is safe for me. It can make our condition worse :D
neng Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 anyways i think it is said here that ronots are use for therapy i think i will accept that rather that it will be the one to operate a human
alice29 Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 well if you have tried a human therapist already then it didn't work then maybe that's the time you try this thing. but prepare a huge amount lol! it's expensive.
pjbabia Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 When i was i thnk 19 0r 20 years old, i got motor accident and i was disabled for about a year. i cannot walk. my therapist was a human, ( of course!) he is really good, in fact he is now in US, practicing his profession., i would still go for human therapist.
Andry Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 @pjbabia That was so frigthening accident if you can't walk anything until a year. I hope you will get better soon and you can walk normally friend...
alice29 Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 well i guess it's not just your therapist that made you walk again pj, it's actually you, your determination to be healed. so it worked for you, means you save a lot of cash because you never needed a robo therapist.
pjbabia Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 @Andry, i can actually walk straight now, thank you for your concern.
alice29 Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 yeah andry, that's what he just said, i guess you need to read it again slowly so you'll understand it. he had a good therapist then. so no need for robot anymore.
Andry Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 @pjbabia Oh sorry, I don't know if you could walk well now. That was good then if you didn't need to use robot as help anymore.
pjbabia Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 yes, i can walk good now.. the accident happened i think more than 5 years ago.... hehehe i dont want to remember the things that happened then.. it brings back the pain in me......
Andry Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 @pjbabia Okay then. The most important is you can walk well again and that was great.
