MetaMask Token Confirmed – $MASK on the Horizon

The question has been floating around for years: will MetaMask ever release its own token? We now have a clear answer.

Joseph Lubin, Ethereum co-founder and CEO of Consensys, confirmed on The Block’s Crypto Beat podcast that the long-rumoured MASK token is coming and, in his words, “sooner than you would expect.”

Why it matters:

MetaMask isn’t just another wallet. It’s the go-to gateway into Ethereum for millions of users. A native token tied to it could play a role in governance, user incentives, and MetaMask’s broader decentralization plans. Lubin made it clear MASK will be linked to pushing the platform in that direction.

Consensys has already shown it can deliver with their Linea Layer-2 token launched this month with billions distributed. If MASK follows a similar model, community participation could be central.

Personally, I think this could be one of the more meaningful token launches in recent memory. MetaMask is already a core part of Web3 activitymgiving users a stake in its future is a logical next step.
