xbhd
The Honduran tourist town of Saint Lucia has reportedly established a local Bitcoin hub. The private project, called "Bitcoin Valley," aims to create a circular bitcoin economy and increase tourist traffic to the region by promoting bitcoin acceptance in local stores. "Accepting bitcoin will allow us to open up another market and gain more customers," said Cesar Andino, owner of St Lucia Tourism Business. "We have to be global, we can't isolate ourselves from technology, and we can't be left behind when other countries are already doing it." The project, which officially launched last Thursday, is being jointly developed by Honduran Blockchain Organization, Guatemalan cryptocurrency exchange Coincaex, Honduras University of Science and Technology, and the city government of Saint Lucia. According to the report, Carlos Leonardo Paguada Velasquez, founder of Honduras Blockchain and representative of the Central American Association of Cryptocurrency Users, said that about 60 businesses with owners trained in the use of Bitcoin will launch the project.
