marcopolo
It’s only a matter of time before water becomes a traded commodity like oil, gold and silver. When demand exceeds supply, business steps up to find a way to meet that demand. But in doing so it will face costs – massive costs – which will require the market to set a price for life’s most precious commodity. According to the UN 40% of the world’s population will be living with water scarcity by 2035. Population growth, increased agriculture and industrialisation will propel the world’s need for fresh, clean water to 55% higher than today’s supply levels by 2050. In an attempt to stem increasing demand, governments are preventing industries from sourcing water from underground and forcing them to invest in desalination or waste water recycling plants to meet needs.
